Short version: We collect only what we need to run the service. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We're a small team building something we use ourselves — your privacy matters to us.

1. Who we are

Checked Out is an AI-powered meal planning service operated by Key True Consulting, LLC ("Checked Out," "we," or "us") that generates personalized weekly meal plans and a categorized shopping list for its users.

Questions about this policy? Email us at hello@checkedoutapp.com.

2. What we collect

We collect information in three ways: information you give us directly, information collected automatically when you use the service, and limited information we receive from service providers that support the service.

For residents of certain U.S. states, including California, this section and Sections 3 and 4 describe the categories of personal information we collect, the categories of sources from which we collect it, the purposes for which we collect, use, and disclose it, and the categories of third parties or other recipients to whom we disclose it, as required by applicable law.

Information you provide:

Checked Out does not currently connect to any grocery retailer or online cart. Your plan includes a categorized shopping list for your own use at any store. If retailer integration is added in the future, we'll update this policy before it goes live.

Information collected automatically:

We do not collect or store your payment card details directly. When you subscribe, your payment method is collected and processed by our payment processor, Stripe. We receive limited billing information from Stripe — such as your subscription status, plan, and billing history — to manage your account and provide support. When you interact with third-party services such as our payment processor, their own terms and privacy policies may also apply to their handling of your information.

Depending on how you use the service, the personal information we collect may include identifiers and contact information, household and profile information, meal-planning preferences, commercial or billing information, internet or other electronic network activity information, and inferences drawn from your preferences or use of the service. We collect this information from you, from your use of the service, from your device or browser, and from service providers that support the service. We and our service providers may use cookies, similar technologies, and server logs — including technologies used for authentication, security, service functionality, and usage measurement — to collect the automatic-use information described above, maintain and secure the service, understand how the service is used, and improve the service.

Your browser or device may allow you to manage cookies and similar technologies through its settings, although disabling some of them may affect how the service functions.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

We use AI (via third-party model providers) to generate meal plans. Your household profile and preferences are sent to the AI model to produce your plan. Where required by applicable law, we obtain any required consent before collecting or processing sensitive personal information or sensitive data, and you may contact us to withdraw that consent, although doing so may limit or prevent use of features that depend on that information. We do not use your data to train AI models.

If we rely on your consent to collect or process sensitive personal information or sensitive data, you may withdraw that consent by contacting us at hello@checkedoutapp.com, although doing so may limit features that depend on that information.

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use personal information for targeted advertising, and we do not share it with advertisers. In the preceding 12 months, we have not sold or shared personal information.

In the preceding 12 months, we have disclosed personal information to the following categories of recipients for the following business purposes:

5. Data retention

We keep your account information, household profile, meal plans, and logs for as long as your account exists and for as long as reasonably necessary and proportionate for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. This is independent of your subscription status: if your subscription is canceled, lapses, or a renewal payment fails, your data is not deleted — it's retained so your history and plans are still there if you resubscribe. Data is only removed when you take the separate, explicit step of deleting your account (see below). In general, we retain account, subscription, and billing-related records for as long as needed to manage the account and comply with legal, tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention obligations; household profiles, dietary information, preferences, meal plans, and logs until you delete them or delete your account; and device, usage, and crash information for as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting, and service improvement.

6. How to delete your account

You can permanently delete your Checked Out account and all associated data at any time, directly in the app. Deleting your account also cancels your subscription and ends your access to the service when the deletion is completed:

  1. Open the Checked Out app and sign in
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Open the Delete account section
  4. Type DELETE to confirm, then tap Permanently delete my account

Prefer not to use the app? Email hello@checkedoutapp.com from your account's email address and we'll process the deletion manually.

What gets deleted: your account, household profile, dietary preferences, meal plans, meal and water logs, and your sign-in identity — this is a complete erasure, not a deactivation. This happens when the deletion is completed after you confirm in-app.

What we may retain: nothing beyond what we're required to keep for legal or compliance reasons (e.g. financial/billing records where applicable). We don't keep a shadow copy of your household or meal data after deletion.

One narrow exception: to prevent free-trial abuse, we keep a one-way cryptographic hash of the email address on a deleted account indefinitely. This lets us detect if a deleted account is recreated to claim a second free trial. The hash cannot be reversed to reveal your email address, isn't linked to any of your household or meal data (which is deleted as described above), and isn't used for anything other than this trial-eligibility check.

7. Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data — encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure credential storage, and access controls. However, no system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

8. Children's privacy

Checked Out is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Parents and other legally authorized account holders may add household members (including children) to a household subscription. Individuals who are 13 or older may also create and maintain their own household subscription. If an account holder adds any household member who is a minor, the account holder must be the minor's parent, legal guardian, or otherwise legally authorized to act for them.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live and subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@checkedoutapp.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request. If permitted by applicable law, you may also use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. If we decline to take action on your request, you may appeal that decision by replying to our response or emailing hello@checkedoutapp.com with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights, subject to applicable law. We will respond within 30 days or within a longer period permitted by applicable law if we notify you.

If we cannot verify your identity or authority, or if an exception applies under applicable law, we may decline your request and will explain the basis for that decision as required by applicable law.
